Scientific Name: Lamprotornis regius
Range: Africa
Habitat: Savanna, shrubland
Food: Insects
A golden jewel. This colorful bird earns the nickname “royal starling.” Being the most colorful starling in the world has a downside - being a target for the pet trade. Even its eggs are a beautiful, pale green with red speckles!
The golden starling lives mostly on the ground in the African grasslands, flying into a bush when startled. It hunts by running and hopping after insects to eat, often flicking its bill into ant and termite tunnels.
