The monkeys you see climbing around at Sanctuary Asia are François’ langurs, leaf-eating monkeys whose babies are born bright orange before turning black like their parents! The François’ langur species comes from Southeast Asia and the Zoo also helps protect their cousins on the island of Sri Lanka. The purple-faced langur lives nowhere else on Earth and is critically endangered. It’s even on the list of the world’s 25 most at-risk primates! As forests are cut down, these monkeys are running out of safe places to live.
